Raw Materials
Athena is a Technolocical world leader in Head GAsket design and works with many of the performance OEM manufactures. Each Head Gasket configuration utilizes the best raw materials available, such as AISI 304 Stainless Steel. Athena utilizes state of the art processing such as in-line laser cutting and multi-stage stamping technologies. With our Multi-Layered Steel (MLS) Head Gasket, each layer is individually blanked and formed specially to optimize performance.
Optimized Embossing Formation
Through multi stage processing, our embossing process optimizes the radius in the bend areas. The result is reduction in stress points, improved conformability, and superior wet-out (contact area) that is superior to the competition. Our technology also provides a consistent inner flange spacing of (minimum of 0.040”) from the edge to the embossed start point. This results in a superior seal in the embossed areas.
Stress Stabilization & Relaxation
This proprietary tempering process significantly reduces forming induced stresses. Pre-coated metal (used by competition) would not be able to survive this stabilization process. Advantages of a tempered metal are reduced hardness and brittleness, increased flexibility and deformation retention. This process dramatically increases the long term durability and reliability of each head gasket.
Proprietary Coating Technologies
Four different layers are used to provide the ultimate seal between the head and block mating surfaces. These coatings will normally eliminate the need for additional
deck surfacing, Our coating processing provides 100% encapsulation of all exposed metal, far superior to the competition that has exposed raw steel on the edges. The layers include Fluoroelastomer (FKM) for extreme temperature and chemical resistance. This technology provides superior conformability, oxidation resistance, and better removability, even after extreme temperature exposure.
High Performance Cooper ring Insert
For specific very high horsepower applications, a conventional or MLS Head Gasket can be significantly improved utilizing a different sealing system for the combustion area. Athena utilizes a proprietary INOX steel fire ring which offers improved sealing technologies over copper and conventional fire rings. This solution dramatically increases the cylinder head gasket resistance.
This technology outperforms cooper and conventional fire ring solutions.
-> Reinforced material M0115 (see features below): asbestos free composite raw material OE approved.
-> Stainless steel ring (AISI 304) separate stainless steel rings assure maximum sealing around cylinder bore also on NOS and/or turbo charges engines where boost is over 2 bars. No head and block machining required.
-> Silicon beading: Silicon-based beading is applied on critical areas to improve sealing around all cooling water and oil passages.
MATERIAL
-> Description
MOTORGASKET M0115 is composed of a pegged steel core. An asbestos-free soft material, which contains a blend of inorganic fillers and a high grade of aramide fibres and NBR as binder, is applied to both sides of the core.

MOTORGASKET M0115 is suitable for cylinder head gaskets in internal combustion engines; intake and exhaust manifolds; other sealing areas exposed to high mechanical and thermal stress.

MOTORGASKET M0115 has a good mechanical and thermal stress, conforms well to sealing faces. MOTORGASKET M0115 is resistant to oils, fuels, mixtures of water and antifreeze or corrosion inhibitors

Coloured: Grey Top coating: / Treatment: For stressed application special coatings are applied, e.g. a PTFE anti-stick coating or a special silicon coating which improves micro-sealing and silicon beading.
FEM Test
FEM (Finite Element Method) allows our cylinder head gasket to be constructed and optimized before realizing their design and manufacturing. Our FEM software provides a wide range of simulation options for controlling the complexity of both modeling and analysis of the system.
1. PRESSING PROCESS Each gasket is pressed to reach the perfect flatness according to the required tolerances. |

2. SILICON BEADING This working process adds a silicon bead over specific gasket areas to increase sealing around liquid passages (water and oil). |

3. FINISHING The application of different superficial coatings enables the gasket to better performance, prevent sticking phenomena and enhance high temperature resistance. |

4. COOPER RING ASSEMBLING Each gasket supplied with steel ring is manually refined to guarantee perfect cooper ring installation.
